Dental bonding uses tooth-colored resin to repair small defects or alter the shape or appearance of a tooth. It may be considered for certain chips, gaps, areas of wear, or color and contour concerns.
Evaluation and limitations
The tooth, bite, existing restorations, amount of change requested, and forces placed on the area affect whether bonding is suitable. Resin can stain, chip, or wear and may not be the best choice for every condition.
Alternatives and care
Depending on the need, alternatives may include no treatment, smoothing, orthodontic care, a veneer, an inlay or onlay, or a crown. Bonded areas should be cleaned normally and checked during dental visits.
